I have done a bag diy using my old summer dress in a previous post. Today I wanted to do another one using my children’s old dresses.
I have two wonderful daughters that are growing so fast before my eyes. There has been a constant sorting of their closets to check and give away clothes that they have outgrown all through out their growth spurts. But I have kept a few dresses with prints that I found so pretty and knew I could use for some diy in the future. And that future has come.
Let me show you how to easily do a bag diy from your children’s old dresses. If you have a sewing machine then you can do this in a blink. I don’t have one so I hand sewed it.
Children’s old dress
This is one of the dresses.
I cut the top part and left about 2 inches for hemming.
I folded in about 3/4 ” and pinned that in place.
This time I used a blanket stitch on the folded fabric.
At this point, I turned the dress inside out and pinned the edges in place. I did a back stitch to seal the edge of the bag.
The dress had a belt sash attached to it so I just folded the edge and sewed it to the top opening to make it into the bag’s strap.
Then I just tied a knot at the top of the strap, this way the length can be adjusted at anytime.
This is now a bag my daughter can use.
This was the other dress.
This was the quickest one to do. I turned the dress sideways so the shoulder straps become the bag handles or strap.
I pinned the edge and hand sewed the top part where the pink edging begins.
That’s it. This can now be used as a reusable bag for small grocery or shopping items.
You can totally rock this!
