I have a big wooden chest filled with recyclable materials that I keep for possible diy projects. Sorting through it, I grabbed a used box from a gift I remember my daughter received for her birthday. The cardboard was thick so I wanted to do something that can stand even if I cut through it.
Next thing I did was enter my daughter’s room and searched around for a useful and functional diy I could make for their room. Their hair ties were in a big glass jar, properly stored, but I thought of a cuter way to organize them.
This is an easy diy and so so so cheap to make.
X-acto knife or craft knife
Find any used box. Toy boxes from gifts your kids received are great to use because they mostly are sturdy and firm types of cardboard.
Use a ruler and measure about 6 inches from the bottom and make a straight horizontal line all around the box.
Make a freehand drawing of scoops of ice cream and popsicles on the other sides of the box using a pen.
Get your X-acto knife and cut through the cardboard following the outlines of your ice cream scoops and popsicles. Do not cut away the bottom part which is about 6 inches high.
When the outlines have been cut out, you need to prime this cut up box with white acrylic paint. Paint the outside and inside of the box. Apply two coats of white paint. Make sure to dry the first coat before putting the second coat.
Here comes the fun part. Painting with colors! Use any color you want and paint over the ice cream scoops and popsicles. Also paint the cone and popsicle sticks.
Paint the inside of the box where the popsicles and ice cream scoops are. Then paint the base of the box with a color different from the colors you’ve used for the rest of the images. Dry thoroughly.
Once all the first coats of the colored paints have dried, apply a second coat. Brush lines will be so evident and faint colors come out of the first coat.
Organize hair ties with this repurposed box.
Loop the hair ties on the scoops and popsicle cut outs. The middle section of the box on the other hand becomes the perfect storage for hairbrushes.
If you still have some used box lying around in your home, you might want to do another box diy that’ll be awesome for storage or even as a cool gift box. Try the TROPICAL FRUIT THEME BOXES.
You can totally rock this!
